Live theater transports us into a realm of imagination, where dreams of beauty and a better world are born. But what if that dream-world suddenly goes dark?

COVID-19 caused an abrupt closure of the Herberger Theater. As cancellations of performances continue to be widespread, the impact on the Herberger Theater community has been staggering.

The pandemic has hit arts organizations especially hard, and our resident performing companies have been unable to perform in our theaters.

This crisis deeply hurts us all. That’s why it’s so important that those of us who truly love the performing arts do everything in our power to keep them alive. While the Herberger Theater’s indoor stages are temporarily dark, the show must go on!  Now more than ever, the Herberger Theater needs your help to raise the curtain again, bringing that joy and inspiration to our community.

From March 2020 through November 2020, we experienced an operational revenue loss of more than $711,000. In total, our earned revenue was reduced by 90%.

But with your support, we have found imaginative and safe solutions to ensure that the show does go on . . . because it’s at the very heart of our mission to provide opportunities for artists to engage in their craft and that neighbors and children throughout Phoenix continue to experience the beauty and magic of the theater.

For the sake of our artists and the betterment of our community, the show really must go on. Our new outdoor stage—The Pavilion—is a unique opportunity to bring the magic of the arts back to our community.

In these difficult and uncertain times, your support is critically important to helping the Herberger Theater continue its mission of engaging the community through diverse arts experiences that ignite emotion, stimulate conversation, and inspire connections with the arts. Together we can:

  • Connect the Community—With your support, the Herberger Theater will continue to celebrate the diverse cultural heritage of our community, providing meaningful experiences and programs while making the arts accessible to all.
  • Support Live Theater— Your gift will help offset costs to the Herberger Theater so that we can continue to keep rental rates at a minimum for local performing companies.
  • Keep Performers in the Spotlight—Literally! Your support will help us to improve theatrical lighting and sound, allowing performers to shine brighter than ever.
  • Provide Peace of Mind—As theatergoers and performers start returning to the theater, your gift will help us prepare our stages for the return of live performances and maintain a safe and clean environment.

In this time of unprecedented difficulty, please make a donation and help us keep the curtain raised for the performing arts. With your help, we can sustain a safe and inspiring outdoor space for our audiences and the community—and prepare for a time when we can celebrate the magic of live performance back inside together.

Please consider making a tax-deductible gift of $25, $50, $100, or whatever your means allow.

With gratitude,
Mark Mettes
President & CEO

P.S. Please make your tax-deductible contribution TODAY and help us keep the curtain raised!
