Youth Arts

Theater Camp Program

A program to heal young lives through the performing arts.

Theater Camp is a collaboration between the Herberger Theater and Free Arts for Abused Children. Teens living in group homes, shelters and residential treatment programs have an opportunity to create and experience the arts through a two-week camp.

A wide range of theater activities are provided to the teens, including improvisation, costumes, props and tech. The program demonstrates the positive role the arts can play in the lives of young people and emphasizes the opportunities for at-risk youth that these teens may never experience. The final performance is powerful and moving with participants sharing their own stories of surviving abuse, prison, and being removed from their families using poetry, music, movement and storytelling.

“It was hands down one of the best experiences of my life.”

Theater Camp is a very important program. It is not a stage production with fancy brochures. It is an effective way to use theater to give hope and courage to youth who are victimized and hurt. It is our goal to see that this program can count on the Herberger Theater as its home for years to come.
