Presented by ASU Performance in the Borderlands
Center Stage
September 4, 2014
The ‘Prognosis’ Concert* featuring rapper Bocafloja and local Arizona artists is an event that focuses on borders, colonialism, arts and social change. The Herberger Theatre Center will become a participatory meeting place for community artists to engage these topics in ways that are artistically challenging, center marginalized voices, promote bilingual/binational perspectives, and open up public spaces for the Arizona community to think about critical issues.
Event includes dance concert on stage featuring Bocafloja & DJ Musa + dancers, and pre-show activities held on the outdoor Plaza and in the Lobby featuring Black Poet Ventures, Connie Muhammad, Phonetic Spit, Jade Catron and Shining Soul.
Bocafloja is a poet, rap artist, scholar, cultural ambassador and founder of the Quilomboarte collective. In 2008 he published his first book ImaRginación. Prognosis is his second literary project. Race relations, decolonial narrative, and the African diaspora in Latin America studies are fundamental topics addressed in his body of work.
