Arizona Opera School Tour

September 28, 2009

A collaboration between the Herberger Theater Center and Arizona Opera to encourage participation in the staging and performance of an opera. Students have an interactive experience with trained classical singers as they take on roles in an abbreviated version of La boheme, targeted to students in grades 9-12.

The 50-minute bilingual production is set in a college town in Arizona, where a passionate student falls in love with a beautiful woman with one fatal flaw - she's a smoker.  With some of the most beautiful music ever written, this opera will connect with students and teach them the dangers of smoking and the power of compassion.

The Arizona Opera School Tour introduces youth to the world of opera in their own school. The tour brings opera into schools across the state and presents a one-hour long production complete with professional singers, accompanist, piano, sets and costumes.

Sponsorship funding will provide support for the program, including use of the theater space and technical needs.
